PCWattVault — Terms of Use
Last updated: September 2026 · Publisher: tmnetworks
These terms cover the use of the PCWattVault application. Installing or using the app means you accept them. They are written to be read, not skimmed — the short version: the app is free, your data stays yours, the numbers are honest estimates and must not be treated as a utility bill.
The app and its price
PCWattVault is currently free, including every Pro feature. Each installation records a Founder / Early Adopter license marker: if Pro ever becomes a paid upgrade for new users, installations carrying the marker keep all Pro features at no cost. That promise is honored by current and future versions of the app. We do not announce any future pricing or dates — if that ever changes, it will change for new users only.
The application's own code is open source under the MIT license; it builds on third-party open-source components credited in the app's Third-Party Notices (notably LibreHardwareMonitorLib, MPL-2.0).
Estimates — please read this one
Everything PCWattVault displays — watts, energy, costs, projections, predictions, CO₂ figures — is an estimate for guidance. Even readings taken from a smart plug or digital PSU are consumer-grade measurements and can deviate from your utility's certified meter, which together with your contract is the only authority for what you actually pay.
Do not use PCWattVault's figures for billing, for splitting costs with other people, or for financial decisions. The app repeats this notice in its interface and reports because we mean it.
Third-party hardware and software
- TP-Link / Tapo: PCWattVault is an independent application with no affiliation, endorsement or commercial relationship with TP-Link. TP-Link and Tapo are trademarks of their owner. The optional smart-plug feature talks to your plug over its local device interface (the community-established approach also used by Home Assistant and similar projects) and requires the "Third-Party Compatibility" switch in the Tapo app. The protocol is not publicly documented by TP-Link, so this feature is provided best-effort: a future firmware change may break it, in which case the app's software model takes over until an update restores support.
- LibreHardwareMonitor (the standalone program) is independent third-party open-source software with its own license and terms; you install and run it at your own choice. Download it only from its official release page on GitHub: other websites use its name without being part of the project, and what they offer may not be the genuine program.
- PawnIO is a third-party signed kernel driver by its own author. PCWattVault never includes or installs it: Store apps may not ship kernel drivers. If it ends up on your system it is because you put it there, or LibreHardwareMonitor installed it through its own driver prompt, with your consent. If you want it, take it only from pawnio.eu or through that prompt.
- Installs from the Microsoft Store are additionally governed by the Store's own terms.
Your side
You are responsible for the devices you connect the app to (your PC, your plug, your network) and for the account credentials you enter. Smart-plug credentials are stored encrypted on your machine only and can be wiped in Settings at any time. Elevation prompts and driver installations always ask first — declining them leaves the app running with estimates.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind — including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of measurements. To the maximum extent permitted by law, tmnetworks is not liable for damages arising from the use of the app or from reliance on its figures. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law grants you and that cannot be contractually excluded.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date above always reflects the current version, and continued use after a change means acceptance. Greek law governs these terms.
